Governor Schwarzenegger Highlights Economic Benefits of Proposition 1C and Proposition 46 Housing Bond Funding

At The Railyards in Sacramento, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger today highlighted the economic benefits of $624.6 million in Proposition 1C and Proposition 46 bond funding recently awarded by the Administration's Department of Housing and Community Development.

"These funding will stimulate the economy by creating jobs throughout California while also creating affordable housing opportunities near transit, revitalizing neighborhoods and improving infrastructure" said Governor Schwarzenegger. "This economic stimulus is exactly why we have been working to push billions of dollars out the door as quickly as possible."

These funds were allocated to projects between February 1 and June 30, 2008 and will provide housing opportunities for more than 17,000 Californians. Proposition 1C is the $2.85 billion housing bond passed by voters in November 2006 as part of the Governor's Strategic Growth Plan. Proposition 46 is the $2.1 billion housing bond approved by voters in November 2002.

Los Angeles Region: The Los Angeles Region will receive more than $219.1 million to provide housing, and incentive units for 6,220 families and individuals. This includes nearly $137.7 million in Infill Infrastructure Grant Program funds, $44.2 million through the Transit-Oriented Development Housing Program over $26 million creating affordable apartment homes through the Multifamily Housing Program and Supportive Housing and Homeless Youth Components, nearly $6 million through the Emergency Housing and Assistance Program, and nearly $5.3 million through Building Equity and Growth in Neighborhoods Program funds. San Francisco/Bay Area Region: The San Francisco/Bay Area Region will receive more than $175.5 million to provide housing and incentive units for 4,518 families and individuals. This includes $73.3 million in Infill Infrastructure Grant Program funds, over $62.7 million through the Transit-Oriented Development Housing Program, $25.1 million Multifamily Housing Program and its Homeless Youth Component, nearly $8 million through the Building Equity and Growth in Neighborhoods Program, nearly $6 million through the Emergency Housing and Assistance Program and $444,000 through the CalHome Program. Greater Sacramento/Stockton Region: The Greater Sacramento/Stockton Region will receive over $123 million to provide housing and incentive units for 324 families and individuals. This includes $83.1 million in Infill Infrastructure Grant Program funds, $17 million through the Transit-Oriented Development Housing Program, $10.1 million creating affordable apartment homes through the Multifamily Housing Program, nearly $6.7 through the Emergency Housing and Assistance Program, $1.5 through the through the Joe Serna, Jr. Farmworker Housing Grant Program, nearly $4.3 million in BEGIN program funds, and $300,000 in CalHome Self-Help Housing Technical Assistance Allocation Program funds. Central California: The Central California will receive nearly $40 million to provide housing and incentive units for 1,218 families and individuals. This includes $23.3 million in funds through in Infill Infrastructure Grant Program funds, $8 million through the Joe Serna, Jr. Farmworker Housing Grant Program, $6.8 million in Building Equity and Growth in Neighborhoods Program funds, and $1.8 million through the Emergency Housing and Assistance Program. San Diego Region: The San Diego Region will receive $36.1 million to provide housing and incentive units for 1,019 families and individuals for infrastructure improvements to facilitate new housing development in residential and mixed use infill projects throughout California housing, and stimulate the production of higher density housing and related infrastructure within close proximity to transit stations. Inland Empire: The Inland Empire will receive nearly $16.3 to provide housing, and incentive units for 451 families and individuals.
