Hastings Votes to Override Veto of Full Farm Bill

With the support of Congressman Doc Hastings, the House of Representatives today voted to override President Bush's veto of the full Farm Bill. Today's vote came after House Democrat leaders only sent the President a partial Farm Bill last month - leaving out a section that included some specialty crop programs and a key trade promotion program. The Senate must now override the President's veto before the Farm Bill will become law.

"I disagree with President Bush and believe enacting the Farm Bill into law is the right thing to do. This Farm Bill includes several priorities that I have long-sought including research dollars and trade programs that matter most to local farmers and our agriculture-dependent economy.

Along with enacting this Farm Bill we must lower gas prices by producing more energy here at home, enact fair trade agreements and continue low tax policies in order to grow our Central Washington economy and create jobs."
