Drake Votes for Troop Funding, Increased Veterans' Benefits

G.I. Bill Reform Includes Transferability of Benefits to Immediate Family, Does not Raise Taxes

U.S. Representative Thelma Drake (R-VA) today joined a large majority of her colleagues in the House in voting for funding for combat operations in the Global War on Terror. She released the following statement on the bill:

"Today's winners are our military men and women and their families. Although it was my hope that this bill would pass months ago in a bipartisan fashion and the funds would already be on the way to the troops in harm's way, I am delighted that Congress has passed a bill that will immediately send desperately needed support to our servicemembers fighting in the Global War on Terror," said Drake. "I am happy that our troops will get the updated GI Bill that I have always supported. Unlike the last version that the House considered, this bill will allow our veterans to transfer their benefits to family members and won't raise taxes on American families."
