Michaud Statement on News that Van Buren Port of Entry will Reopen to Truck Traffic

Today, Congressman Mike Michaud issued the following statement upon hearing news that the Van Buren Port of Entry is anticipated to reopen on Friday to commercial traffic.

"This is very welcome news. I have heard the frustrations expressed by a number of residents and small businesses, and I totally understand where they are coming from. Though it may have taken longer than desired, I appreciate the General Service Administration's work to handle this as quickly as possible while maintaining safety. My office has been working closely with the rest of the congressional delegation as well as our federal agencies to make sure that infrastructure affected by the floods is inspected thoroughly and, if safe, reopened. The reopening of the Van Buren Port of Entry is welcome news to the region's economy and a positive step forward in the rebuilding of our communities."
