There are few issues that Congress addresses that have the importance and far reaching impact of education. I have worked hard in Congress to pass legislation that will hold public schools more accountable for the education provided to our children and to ensure that everyone has access to the best education. No Child Left Behind continues to play an important role in this process of bettering public education.

In my view, the best thing that the federal government can do is send our local education authorities the resources they need to make changes and get results. While the problems in our education system are very real and run very deep within the educational establishment, the solutions need to come from the local level. We must get federal education dollars out of the hands of Washington bureaucrats and into the classrooms. I want to return control of our schools to the parents and get them more involved in the teaching process. This is essential for restoring our commitment to basic academics and to making sure that every child is given the same opportunity to thrive and succeed.
