Mack: Tax Freedom Day a Reminder That We Pay Too Much in Taxes

Press Release

Date: April 23, 2008
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Connie Mack (FL-14) issued the following statement today on Tax Freedom Day, which marks the day Americans stop working to pay taxes and start working to support themselves.

Mack said:

"Americans had to work nearly four months this year in order to have earned enough to pay their federal, state and local taxes, and Floridians had to work even longer. That's an injustice to taxpayers and yet another stark reminder that our nation's complex tax system and Washington's out-of-control federal spending burden American families and businesses.

"As I have said time and again, our country's freedom, security and prosperity depends on a government that taxes less, spends less, and regulates less. Unfortunately, the Democratic Leadership's solution of imposing more taxes, more spending and more government bears little hope that hardworking families in Southwest Florida and the nation will enjoy the much earlier Tax Freedom Day they deserve."
