Boustany Encouraged by Movement on Farm Bill, Urges Conferees to Reject Tax Hikes

Statement

Date: April 11, 2008
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Representative Charles W. Boustany, Jr., (R-Southwest Louisiana), a member of the House Agriculture Committee, today commented on the appointment of Conferees to work out differences between the House and Senate versions of the Farm Bill.

"I am encouraged by today's progress, but much work remains to be done," Boustany said. "I look forward to working with the Conferees of both parties to ensure Southwest Louisiana farmers and ranchers are represented as we move forward. The Conferees must make the Farm Bill about farmers, and that begins by rejecting tax hikes on farmers, their families and their businesses."

Boustany, the only Louisiana member of the House Agriculture Committee, continues to fight for a sensible commodity title and against tax increases on the agricultural community.
