Making Renewable Energy a Breeze

Iowa already leads the nation in many ways, from the Presidential elections to the production of corn. But right now, our state has the potential to lead the nation in yet another way: the production of clean, renewable wind energy.

Last week, I introduced the Clean Energy Investment Act of 2008 (H.R. 5231). This bill would boost wind energy production in Iowa and the United States by renewing a tax credit that gives energy producers more incentive to invest in wind farms and wind production.

Iowa currently ranks fourth in the nation in the production of wind energy, but our state has the potential to power more than 15 million homes with clean wind power if our resources were fully tapped.

By renewing the Wind Energy Production Tax Credit for seven additional years, my legislation will create stability and predictability in the wind energy marketplace so wind energy producers can invest more freely in production and the latest technology.

I'll be pushing to pass my wind energy tax credit bill into law so that Iowa can continue to be a national leader in developing renewable energy technology.
