Hayes' Chinese Delivery Menu
Statement
One year ago today, Larry Kissell, Democratic Candidate for North Carolina's 8th District, asked Congressman Robin Hayes to finally come clean, once and for all, on why he reversed his solemn promise to North Carolina working families and voted against them in favor of President Bush's Central American Free Trade Agreement.
Now, 730 days and counting after Rep. Hayes' midnight capitulation, as more jobs leave our district and even though he supposedly traded his vote for getting tough on China, our trade deficit with the Chinese rose to $20.2 billion in May placing us on track to surpass last year's record US-China trade deficit of $233 billion. Robin Hayes offers nothing to the citizens of his district except inept excuses and empty promises of cracking down on the Chinese imports.
"We're seeing more jobs leave not only home, but Mexico and Central America now, more illegal immigration, more illegal transshipping, and a record and rising trade deficit with the Chinese," said Kissell. "Robin Hayes still has no excuse for selling out working families on CAFTA."
"We haven't seen the concessions he promised for reversing his vote in support of President Bush's failed trade policies - not once, but twice providing the one vote needed for passage. The only concessions seem to have been made by Congressman Hayes, not to him," said Kissell spokesman Steve Hudson. "However, he did effectively use his CAFTA vote for campaign fundraising and moving up in the Republican leadership."

All items superficially satisfying, but two years later you're still hungry.
"I'm guessing the Hayes folks are going to be up late this CAFTA anniversary making new excuses. Maybe we should have some Chinese delivered. They're going to have a late night," said Kissell spokesman Steve Hudson.
