Regional Coalition Briefing on Water Resources

The East Tennessee Water Resource Planning Coalition will brief Congressman Zach Wamp on Wednesday about its water resource planning activities and projects. The briefing will take place at the Grainger County Justice Center, located at 270 Justice Center Dr. in Rutledge, at 3:45 p.m.

"Having a dependable supply of safe, clean drinking water is essential to the citizens of east Tennessee and central to long-term economic growth in the area," said Congressman Wamp. "This coalition can play a significant role in water conservation and promote regional cooperation by planning how to best manage the area's water resources in times of drought."

Congressman Wamp requested a briefing from the newly-formed coalition to hear about their plans to address the water supply needs in east Tennessee. The mayors of Claiborne, Grainger and Hancock counties are expected to attend, along with representatives of the Tennessee Farm Bureau, University of Tennessee Agriculture Extension Service, the President and CEO of Hallsdale Powell Utility District and other members of the coalition.

The East Tennessee Regional Water Coalition includes Claiborne, Grainger, Hancock, Knox and Union counties, and was formed to address public water service issues and help overcome challenges related to droughts and inadequate water supplies.
