Issue Position: Judiciary & Crime

I have always supported measures that are tough on those who break the law, but the importance of rehabilitation can not be forgotten. I believe this should be the first course of action, but clearly there are some people who are not receptive to rehabilitation and continue to commit crimes. In these instances the courts and individual state legislatures have determined the legal forms of punishment, and in some jurisdiction, the death penalty is one legal option.

Drugs have had a devastating impact on our society. One tragedy caused by drug use is the separation of families when one member is sent to prison for distributing or possessing drugs. However, the devastating impact drugs have had in the lives of habitual users and their families is an even greater tragedy. For these reasons, I favor strong penalties to deter drug use and distribution.
