Location: Washington, DC

Today, bipartisan Congressional leadership announced an agreement with the White House to push forward an economic stimulus package to jumpstart the slowing economy. Following is a statement from U.S. Rep. Ed Perlmutter concerning the terms of the agreement.

"Two nights ago, I heard first hand from people in my district about the tough economic times many of them are facing. From foreclosures and credit issues to the value of the dollar and outsourcing of jobs, people across the board are feeling the squeeze. It is time we provide real, timely, temporary and targeted relief to the hardworking people of this country.

I urge my colleagues to swiftly approve this stimulus package. I believe it is a good step in the right direction. I still think we need to provide more relief to lower income Americans as well as invest in critical infrastructure. I will continue to work with my colleagues in the House and Senate toward these goals in a timely manner. The American people can't afford to wait any longer."
