INFORMATION ON PROPOSED ECONOMIC STIMULUS

Dear Friend,

On Thursday, January 24, 2008, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, along with House Republicans and U.S. Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson, announced a breakthrough in developing an economic stimulus package to help jump start our weakening economy. The House of Representatives passed this package on January 29, but the Senate has yet to act.

This $150 billion economic stimulus contains a tax rebate check for working Americans, rebate checks for dependent children under the age of 17, tax breaks for small businesses, and housing assistance.

Although this proposal has not yet become law, and as a result the details have not been finalized, I have put together this information packet to help you understand what kind of rebate you might receive. This packet includes some frequently asked questions, as well as examples of typical situations.

Please note, while this document attempts to help you understand the proposals currently under discussion and the rebate amount you may be eligible for, the information provided here contains rough approximations, since each family's tax status is different. Therefore, you should only use the information below as a point of reference, not as a source of definitive information.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call my Washington, DC office at (202) 225-3965. Also, rest assured I will work to ensure an economic stimulus package is enacted into law quickly so you and your neighbors will receive the help you need.

Sincerely,

Joseph Crowley
Member of Congress
