Senator Boxer: EQIP Funding Available

The Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) is a voluntary program for farmers and ranchers willing to make improvements to natural resources on land that they own or manage. It offers both financial and technical assistance.

Applications for EQIP grants are now being accepted at U.S. Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Service offices in California. The deadline for applications is November 2, 2007.

EQIP is a broad conservation program covering soil, water, air, range and wildlife habitat. Grants can be used to implement changes in water conservation, pest management, air quality improvements, and many other areas. Applications are ranked based on scores reflecting their overall benefit to the environment.

If you are interested in the EQIP program, I encourage you to visit the Department of Agriculture's website feature. Because the application sometimes requires several forms, applicants are encouraged to begin the process early.

Sincerely,
Barbara Boxer, US Senator, California
