The House of Representatives has passed several appropriations funding bills with projects in Mississippi's Third Congressional District.
Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act of 2008 (HR 3074):
Jackson Evers International Airport - $500,000 for airfield infrastructure improvements
East Metropolitan Corridor in Rankin County - $250,000
Highway 27 Hurricane Evacuation Route - $100,000
Commerce, Justice, Science and Related Agencies Appropriations for FY 2008 (HR3093):
Regional Counterdrug Training Academy - Meridian - $310,000
Law Enforcement Technology Funding - Smith County Sheriff's Department - $65,000
Departments of Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act of 2008 (HR 3043):
$135,000 to the Amite County Medical Services clinic in Liberty, Mississippi
$215,000 for Hope Village for Children in Meridian
Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act for FY 2008 (HR3161):
Biomass-based Energy Research - $1,188,000: A research consortium between Mississippi State University and Oklahoma State University is developing a gasification-fermentation process that utilizes all of the plant lignin to produce liquid fuel.
E-Commerce - $328,000: Mississippi State University's research facilitates rural businesses and residents with the skills and technology to improve Mississippi's electronic infrastructure.
Wood Utilization - $6,371,000: Mississippi State University and universities in Oregon, North Carolina, Minnesota, Michigan, Tennessee, Arkansas, and West Virginia share in these funds to research technologies to maintain America's worldwide timber industry competitiveness.
Veterinary Medical Services Act - $1,000,000: Funding for Congressman Chip Pickering's National Veterinary Medical Services Act, signed into law by President Bush in 2003. The act provides student loan repayment to veterinary school graduates, including those at Mississippi State University, who agree to work in underserved areas of the country. Eligible students enter into agreements for a period of time and amount of repayment in exchange for service in shortage areas. The act establishes a national guard' of veterinarians. For additional debt repayment, eligible students can assist the USDA in addressing disease outbreaks, agro-terrorist threats or similar emergencies.
