Mack Statement on Swearing-In of New U.S. Ambassador to Venezuela

WASHINGTON - Congressman Connie Mack (FL-14), a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and one of Congress' most outspoken critics of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, issued the following statement today regarding the swearing-in of the new U.S. Ambassador to Venezuela, Patrick Duddy. Duddy replaces outgoing Ambassador William Brownfield.

Mack said:

"Venezuelan strongman Hugo Chavez has continued to prove that he is more interested in pursuing ways to destabilize our hemisphere instead of working with other nations to achieve freedom and stability for all people. Ambassador Duddy has a significant challenge ahead of him in Venezuela and I believe his experience puts him up to the task. I congratulate him on his new post, and I look forward to working with the Ambassador on combating the threat that Chavez poses to the freedom, security and prosperity of the Venezuelan people and all of the Western Hemisphere."
