CROWLEY HAILS FEDERAL FUNDING FOR NYC MASS TRANSIT PLAN

US Congressman Joseph Crowley (D-Queens & the Bronx) hailed the announcement by US Secretary of Transportation Mary Peters that New York City is among five cities to share $1.1 billion in federal funds for mass transit improvements. Specifically, New York will receive $354 million from the Department of Transportation to reduce traffic congestion, combat pollution, and expand mass transit options for New Yorkers in the Bronx and Queens. Rep. Crowley's statement follows.

"This federal funding will help make New York a cleaner, greener and healthier city for our children," Crowley said. "These critical resources will finance major mass transit enhancements that will vastly improve the day-to-day lives of Queens and Bronx families.

"It will also establish New York City as a leader in the effort to preserve our environment for future generations."
