Statement From Congressional Candidate Tom Tierney Regarding Polartec (Formerly Malden Mills)

As a congressional candidate I welcome the focus that Mayors Manzi and Sullivan have put on Polartec's place in the economy of Lawrence, Methuen and the surrounding communities; and I join with them in pledging "to do all that we can to insure that Polartec stays in the community and is successful."

The benefits of Polartec to our local economy have been detailed very well by both gentlemen and need, other than an affirmation, no further amplification from Tom Tierney.

What should be amplified is the great benefit that Polartec brings to our military. During the late 1960s and early 1970s I was a U.S. Marine Corps infantryman attached to "125" [1st Battalion, 25th Regiment, 4th Marine Division]. This unit, which is based in New England, is the Marine Corps famous "Cold Weather" battalion - a unit that specializes in sub-zero temperature warfare. As one who spent many nights on sub-zero maneuvers in the "long john" era [before Polartec fiber had been invented], I say "Semper Fi Polartec" and I pledge, if elected to Congress, to do everything in my power to keep my brother marines and my Army comrades protected by Polartec.
