Heller Secures Funding for Elko County Schools

U.S. Congressman Dean Heller (R-Carson City) secured $250,000 the Northern Nevada Rural Education Technology Initiative. The funding was included in the Departments of Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education Appropriations Act for fiscal year 2008 (H.R. 3043). Elko County schools will receive a portion of these funds.

"Our children must receive the best possible education we can provide in order to compete in the 21st Century. These funds will help Nevada's rural schools provide their students with better technology resources to prepare them for the challenges of competing in a global market," said Heller.

This initiative is funded through the U.S. Department of Education's Fund for the Improvement of Education (FIE). Many rural counties in Nevada lack the funding capability for technology resources for their students. This funding will be used to upgrade technology resources in schools based upon each school's individual needs.
