Rep. Garrett Introduces Amendment to Prevent FAA's Preferred Alternative in Airspace Redesign

Today, U.S. Representative Scott Garrett introduced an amendment with the support of Representatives Frelinghuysen (NJ) and Shays (CT), to prevent the FAA from implementing their inconsiderate and ill-advised Preferred Alternative for the New York/New Jersey/Philadelphia Airspace Redesign.

Rep. Garrett stated "I've been working on this issue from almost my very first days in Congress. The FAA needs to make the quality of life for residents a top priority in their airspace redesign process. It's clear they have not, so we'll have to force them to listen and return to the drawing board."

The FAA's Preferred Alternative plan would alter air traffic patterns that now exist over the project's five-state area, affecting Delaware, Connecticut, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania. Their stated goal is to reduce delays in air travel, but their plans fail to address the increased noise and air pollution or decrease in quality of life for residents on the ground.

"This issue is of great interest to the communities who could be affected by it. I share their concerns that the plan could adversely affect the value of their homes and the quality of life in their communities," concluded Rep. Garrett.
