Dear Friends,

Dulles Rail
The annual transportation spending bill working its way through the House includes another $20 million to help bring Metrorail to Dulles airport and beyond. The House Appropriations Committee, of which I am a senior member, marked up the bill late last week. The full House is expected to take up the bill next week. This latest installment brings the total federal share to date to more than $230 million. My commitment to getting rail out the Dulles corridor and to Loudoun County remains as strong as ever. After years of talk - and planning - this project is on the brink of reality and will help moms, dads, and all commuters spend less time stuck in traffic and more time doing the things they want.

Congress Update
The House continues to work on the 12 annual spending bills. Debate this week is on the measure that funds a number of education and health care programs, including NIH. Next week, the bills that fund the Department of Transportation and the Department of Justice are expected to be on the floor.

Made in China
On Monday I spoke on the House floor regarding China's total disregard for consumer safety standards. I was moved to speak because of the egregious violations that have been uncovered recently, from China's export of contaminated pet food to its sale of malfunctioning fireworks that are responsible for critical injuries to some 10th District residents from Vienna.

Click on the video link below to watch a portion of my speech, or click here to read the complete statement from the Congressional Record, including my "extended remarks" in bold, which are added to the Congressional Record following statements on the House floor.

Best wishes.
