ALTMIRE COMMENDS DEFEAT OF SENATE AMNESTY BILL

U.S. Representative Jason Altmire (PA-4), a member of the House Immigration Reform Caucus, released the following statement regarding today's defeat of the Senate immigration bill. By a vote of 46-53, the Senate killed the bill by rejecting cloture, a motion to end debate on the bill and move it toward final passage:

"I am pleased a bipartisan group of Senators voted to put an end to the effort to grant amnesty to the millions of illegal immigrants in our country today. While we still need to address the flood of illegal immigrants crossing our borders, amnesty should play no part in the solution. The correct response to illegal immigration is to secure our borders, beef up our enforcement efforts, and crack down on lawbreakers."
