CHELSEA POST OFFICE TO BE NAMED AFTER FORMER CONGRESSMAN

Legislation written by U.S. Congressman Dan Boren to designate the Chelsea Postal Building as the Clem Rogers McSpadden Post Office passed the U.S. House of Representatives today. McSpadden, a former U.S. Representative and Oklahoma State Senator will be honored by having the Chelsea Postal Building permanently bear his name.

"Congressman McSpadden is a devoted public servant who served the people of his state and community with distinction," said Boren. "I am pleased to have an opportunity to honor his service through this legislation," Boren added.

McSpadden was born November 9, 1925 in Bushyhead, Oklahoma and was educated in Oologah Public Schools. Among other universities, he attended Oklahoma State University and the University of Texas. After graduation he served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946. In 1954 he was elected to the Oklahoma Legislature as a State Senator, and was elected President Pro Tempore for two terms between 1960 and 1972. He later was elected to the 93rd Congress as a Democratic Representative for Eastern Oklahoma.

McSpadden is currently retired from public life and resides in Chelsea. His productive career included interests such as ranching, the insurance business, real estate development and professional rodeo announcing. He also was active in the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association in Colorado Springs, and was a delegate to the 1968 Democratic National Convention.

Boren's legislation will be sent to the U.S. Senate where it is expected to pass some time later this year.
