PENCE SUPPORTS VETERANS BILL

U.S. Congressman Mike Pence issued the following statement today in support of a bill that would provide for historic increases in funding for veterans affairs and military construction in the fiscal year 2008 budget:

"As a nation, we owe our soldiers, past and present, the best we can provide for the service they render to freedom. I am proud to support this legislation, which will make a historic commitment to our nation's veterans and their families. For all that they have done, it is the least we can do.

"However, this historic increase in veterans spending will require that Congress practice fiscal restraint in the completion of our work on the federal budget. The billions in spending over the President's request must be offset by tough choices in other areas of the national budget. America must keep our promises to our veterans and America must show the fiscal discipline that will make it possible to do that for generations to come."
