Rehberg Sponsors Legislation Congratulating Billings on 125 Years of Prosperity

Montana's Congressman, Denny Rehberg, today sponsored legislation recognizing the 125th anniversary of the city of Billings. Billings was incorporated in 1882 and is now the most populous city in Northern Rocky Mountain Region of the United States.

"Billings has a long heritage as one of the most important cities not only in Montana but in the entire Northwest Region," said Rehberg, a Billings resident. "Over time, Billings has become a center for some of the oldest business, arts, and educational institutions in the state. I look forward to the continued success of Billings in the future."

In addition to his legislation, today, on the House floor, Rehberg gave a speech regarding the importance of Billings to Montana.

"Historically, Billings has long been a gateway to the Pacific Northwest," said Rehberg on the House floor. "Even its name, which originates with former President of the Northern Pacific Railroad, Frederick Billings, is a description of the city's historical role as an important railway link to the Northwest."

During his speech, Rehberg also discussed the diverse history which has taken place around Billings including the journey of Lewis and Clark, famed Western artist Will James' life as a Billings resident, and the establishment of Rocky Mountain College, the oldest institution of higher education in Montana.
"Today, the city serves as an example of an All-American city through both its flourishing economy and its continued growth," Rehberg added. "I congratulate the city of Billings, Montana on its years of rich history."
