Right to Life

My colleagues and I, sent a letter to the House Constitution Subcommittee requesting they hold a hearing on H.R. 618, the Right to Life Act, of which I am a cosponsor. This legislation will recognize the personhood of the unborn for the purpose of enforcing the 5th and 14th Amendments to the Constitution. Specifically, the Right to Life Act will declare that the right to life is vested in each human being at conception. The House Constitution Subcommittee was scheduled to hold a hearing on this bill at the conclusion of the 109th Congress, but the House adjourned before such a hearing could occur.

I realize abortion is a tough issue to discuss, but that is part of the job. Abortion has been an issue that I personally have struggled with throughout my life, but after a great deal of prayer and thought, I have decided that life begins at conception and that I must fight to protect all human life, including the lives of the unborn.

My colleagues and I that have signed on to this letter are asking only for a hearing. We hope that they will do so in the spirit of bipartisanship and fairness.
