UDALL: LET COURT RULING SERVE AS WAKE-UP CALL

U.S. Representative Tom Udall, D-N.M., released the following statement today in reaction to the Supreme Court's decision directing the Environmental Protection Agency to address automobile produced greenhouse gasses.

"Today's ruling is based on rigorous science and clear legal reasoning. It emphasizes the increasing danger of global warming and the wide-reaching responsibilities our nation has to regulate greenhouse gas emissions.

"Let the Court's ruling serve as a wake-up call to this Administration and Congress that global warming is an imminent threat which directly endangers the public and that as government officials we have a moral obligation to deal with. It's Congress' duty to act by passing and signing into law comprehensive, economy-wide global warming legislation. It's simply irresponsible for us as public servants to wait any longer.

"I congratulate the plaintiffs in this case, including my home state of New Mexico, on their successful effort to combat global warming.

Today's ruling comes as Rep. Udall and Rep. Tom Petri, R-WI, prepare to reintroduce the Keep America Competitive Global Warming Act - a market-based approach to mitigating the effects of global warming.
