Chabot Supports Legislation to Improve Benefits for Veterans

Congressman Steve Chabot (R-Ohio) today voted in support of three pieces of legislation designed to improve the quality of life and increase compensation benefits for America's military veterans. The three bills, all of which passed the House with bipartisan support, provide increased mental health services for veterans, additional compensation for disabled veterans and their family members, and expand benefits for veterans with vision impairments.

"We must continue to fulfill our commitment to America's veterans," said Congressman Steve Chabot. "It is important for our service members and their families to know that they will receive high-quality care and that we will provide support for those who have made significant sacrifices for our country."

The Joshua Omvig Veterans Suicide Prevention Act, H.R. 327, targets Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and directs the Department of Veterans Affairs to provide rehabilitative programs for veterans suffering from depression and mental illness. H.R. 1284, the Veterans' Compensation Cost-of-Living Adjustment Act of 2007, increases the rates of veterans' wartime disability compensation and certain benefits for veteran family members. H.R. 797, the Dr. James Allen Veteran Vision Equity Act, expands disability awards for blind veterans to cover those who suffer from impairment of vision involving both eyes due to a service-connected and non service-connected disability.
