Price Statement on American Taxpayer Bill of Rights

Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Taxes

Rep. Tom Price issued the following statement today after participating in the Republican Study Committee's (RSC) "American Taxpayer Bill of Rights" press conference. The initiative launched by RSC members aims to implement budget accountability measures which prioritize America's financial responsibilities, reduce wasteful Washington spending, and inject common sense into Washington's spending methods.

"This Taxpayer Bill of Rights is not merely a slogan or a catch phrase - it's about reforming the way Washington spends the hard earned money of American taxpayers," said Price. "Washington must stop looking for ways to afford bigger government. We need to focus on reducing wasteful spending, balancing the budget, and adapting programs to today's changing demographics.

"There is a common misconception in Washington that simply talking about a problem is as good as solving the problem. However, actions speak louder than words. In 34 of the last 38 years, the federal government has not balanced its own checkbook. This speaks volumes and it must change.

"A strong economy has unintentionally bred greater complacency about hard-earned taxpayer money. Earmark reform, a balanced budget amendment and reducing spending are tools that have been discussed in the past. Now, it's time for Washington to act."
