SPECTER REACTS TO PRESIDENT'S STATE OF UNION ADDRESS

Senator Arlen Specter, the Senior Senator from Pennsylvania, made the following comments after President Bush's State of the Union Address tonight:

"On the domestic issues, I agree with the President on his plans to expand healthcare for the poor, better fund education and change our energy policy to achieve independence from OPEC oil.

"I remain skeptical that his plan to send more troops to Iraq will achieve victory because I doubt that the Iraqi government can meet the President's two conditions: (1) stop the sectarian violence and (2) deploy more of their own troops to secure Baghdad."
