Date: Oct. 22, 2003
Location: Washington, DC

WASHINGTON - Sen. Carl Levin, D-Mich., said the following today:

"I share Senator Warner's view that Lieutenant General William Boykin should be temporarily reassigned from his current position as Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence pending the outcome of the investigation into his recent public statements concerning the religious beliefs of Muslims.

"We cannot afford to have people in senior leadership positions in the Department of Defense who disparage other religions and faiths."
