Sponsor of 9/11 Commission Implementation Legislation Hails Speaker-Elect's Plan for Intel Oversight

Today, House Speaker-elect Nancy Pelosi announced that, as part of the Democrats' pledge to implement all of the 9/11 Commission's recommendations, she will create a Select Intelligence Oversight Panel to control the intelligence budget. This falls in line with one of the commission's key recommendations: that Congress should reorganize for better oversight of intelligence spending.

Rep. Carolyn Maloney (NY-14), a co-chair of the 9/11 Commission Caucus and an author of legislation to implement all of the remaining commission recommendations along with Rep. Christopher Shays (CT-4) (H.R. 5017 - http://maloney.house.gov/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=1118&Itemid=61), today applauded the Speaker-elect for acting decisively to improve security.

"Democrats pledged to implement all of the 9/11 Commission recommendations, and the next Speaker is showing that she and our Caucus are serious about doing so," said Maloney. "This new configuration of Congress will allow people with expertise to better scrutinize and hold accountable our intelligence system. I applaud the Speaker-elect for taking this action following the commission's recommendations."
