Earth to Pat Murphy…Time to Come Back Now, Murphy's Comments Reflect a Weird (if not Wacky) Grasp of the Issues
Posted on 13-10-2006

The district's voters continue to see Pat Murphy go out of his way to adopt his party's most liberal positions. However, it appears that Murphy has decided to move to the left farther than most House Democrats fear to tread.

Pat Murphy Supports Wacky "Three Strikes, You're Out" Rule for Trial Attorneys:

Today Murphy again confirmed his allegiance with trial attorneys and turned his back on working families struggling to cover their rising healthcare costs. As frivolous lawsuits continue to drive up the cost of healthcare and force doctors out of Pennsylvania, Murphy supports a plan to flood our courts with even more frivolous lawsuits.

"Pat Murphy doesn't just support frivolous lawsuits, he would like to see attorneys be able to file three frivolous lawsuits before loosing their bar license," Fitzpatrick said. "This is a clear indication that Pat Murphy is out of touch with voters in the 8th District and beholden to the trial lawyers who fund his campaign."

Murphy's plan would allow an attorney to file up to three frivolous lawsuits before being sanctioned by the bar. If you take the rough estimate of the number of attorneys practicing in Pennsylvania from the Martindale Hubble lawyer index, that would mean 3 lawsuits for each of the 39,816 lawyers in the state. That's 119,448 frivolous lawsuits - or 327 lawsuits filed per day.

"Murphy completely ignores the fact that frivolous lawsuits drive up the cost of healthcare and force doctors to flee the state. "How many more emergency rooms and ob-gyn offices would close due to Pat's three-strike plan?"

"Murphy should understand that getting families and children low cost healthcare is more important than a second Lexus for his donors."

Pat Murphy on Immigration:

Patrick Murphy says he supports tough border control. Really? Then why does he support the Senate immigration bill that not only provides amnesty to illegal aliens, but open Social Security benefits to them as well?

"Pat Murphy can't pay lip-service to immigration enforcement and at the same time support a Senate Bill that provides amnesty to illegal aliens," Fitzpatrick said. "The two don't mix. If he truly understood the issue, he would realize that the American people demand enforcement of our immigration laws, not amnesty."

These are only two examples of Pat Murphy's strange and wacky proposals that do nothing to help working families in the 8 th District. It takes someone from the district to know the district and Pat Murphy continues to show that he is truly out of touch with reality.
