SENATOR ALEXANDER STATEMENT ON THE PASSAGE OF TERRORIST TRIBUNAL LEGISLATION
U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander (R-TN) made the following statement after voting for the passage of the Military Commissions Act of 2006, which passed the Senate by a vote of 65-34:
"This bill does a good job of reconciling our need to protect ourselves from terrorism and preserving our values as a country. We're holding terrorists accountable while showing the world we respect our international obligations and reminding ourselves we give defendants certain rights in trials."
