CONGRESSWOMAN JOHNSON RECEIVES A PERFECT VOTING RECORD FROM THE AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF UNIVERSITY WOMEN

Washington, DC - (Thursday, September 28, 2006) - The American Association of University Women (AAUW), a national organization promoting the education and equity of women and girls, released its annual Congressional Voting Record, which rates Members of Congress on key votes to protect Education, Welfare Reform, Civil Rights and Family Planning. Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson received a score of 100 percent.

The issues championed by the AAUW are ones that I feel very strongly about and I will continue to support legislation that improves equality, education, health care, and the quality of life for residents of the 30th District of Texas," said Congresswoman Johnson.

The AAUW voting record for the 109th Congress rated Members of both the U.S. House and Senate based on eight votes pertaining to the child tax credit, welfare reauthorization, Head Start program, school vouchers, family planning, and violence against women, reproductive choice and civil rights.

"I am proud to have received this distinction from the American Association of University Women. Sustaining the legitimacy of the Voting Rights Act and increasing the Minimum Wage are issues that I feel very strongly about and I will continue to support those legislations that promotes equality, and improves education, health care, and the quality of life for my constituents," said Congresswoman Johnson.

Since 1881, the AAUW has advocated and promoted legislation and societal change to further the cause of gender equality through education and community action. The group currently represents more that 100,000 members and 550 higher education institutions across the country.
