Lieberman Condemns Republicans' Latest Attempt to Include Arctic Drilling in Energy Bill

WASHINGTON - Senator Joe Lieberman (D-CT) made the following statement in response to news today that Republican leaders intend to include language in the final energy bill that would open the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) to oil and gas drilling.

"The President and his anti-environment allies on the Hill can again try to sink an oil drill into the pristine Arctic Refuge through the legislative back door - but the door is locked shut. Big oil will not get a green light to ravage the refuge for six months worth of oil. The Arctic Refuge is a precious and irreplaceable environmental treasure that must be protected. I am committed to stopping the President from pursuing this dangerous path."
