Gubernatorial Candidate Senator Chandler Woodcock Criticizes Incumbent's "Creative Economy" Plan

(Augusta, Maine) June 30 - Gubernatorial candidate Senator Chandler Woodcock (Farmington) criticized the Governor's plan for a so-called "creative" economy today in light of a report issued by the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston.

"Centering an economic agenda on the art industry demonstrates how out of touch the incumbent administration is," Senator Woodcock said. "Maine was one of only two states that did not experience economic growth last year, and hurricane-ravaged Louisiana was the other. Our high taxes and poor business climate are the reasons why. A 'creative' economy does not solve our problems."

Senator Woodcock was referring to a report published by the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston, which stated that last year Maine lost 1,700 manufacturing jobs and 800 financial jobs.

"We need to create a business climate in Maine that welcomes investment," Senator Woodcock said. "Working families need tax relief, and young people need to see an opportunity for good jobs in order to stay in Maine."
