LoBiondo Votes in Support of Israel

U.S. Representative Frank A. LoBiondo (NJ-02) today voted with his colleagues in supporting the state of Israel during the current conflict.

"During this very serious time, the U.S. must stand beside Israel and its democratic partners in the Middle East against Hezbollah, Hamas and other terrorist regimes. The U.S. and Israel have long been close allies, and those regional issues that threaten Israel, threaten America," said LoBiondo, a member of the House Republican Israel Caucus. "While we remain deeply concerned about the escalating violence in the region, today the House overwhelmingly demonstrated that our support is bipartisan and unwavering."

House Resolution 921 reads as follows: "Be it resolved that the House of Representatives reaffirms its steadfast support for the state of Israel; further condemns Hamas and Hezbollah for cynically exploiting civilian populations as shields ... calls for the immediate and unconditional release of Israeli soldiers held captive by Hezbollah and Hamas; (and) affirms that all governments who have provided continued support to Hamas or Hezbollah share responsibility for the hostage-taking and attacks against Israel and, as such, must be held accountable for their actions."

Previously, LoBiondo cosponsored House Resolution 575 which reaffirmed the House of Representatives' commitment to the security of Israel. Specifically, it stated that progress in the peace process requires sustained Palestinian effort to dismantle the terrorist infrastructure. In December 2005, the resolution passed the House in a 397 to17 vote, with 7 members voting present.
