Mack Applauds Passage of Line Item Veto, Death Tax Relief

- Congressman Connie Mack (FL-14) today applauded the passage of two key pieces of legislation in the fight for less taxing and less spending - the Line Item Veto and the the Permanent Estate Tax Relief Act.

Mack said:

"I have said time and again that America's long-term freedom, security and prosperity goes hand-in-hand with restoring fiscal discipline in Washington. The people of Southwest Florida and the rest of the nation deserve a government that taxes less, spends less and regulates less.

"Today the House passed two important tools in that battle - the Line Item Veto and the Permanent Estate Tax Relief Act.

"The Death Tax has punished small business owners and their families for far too long. The Permanent Estate Tax Relief Act will provide permanent relief from this inherently unfair tax, allowing Americans who have worked hard their whole lives to pass down the fruits of their labor to their loved ones.

"I'm also pleased that the House passed the Line Item Veto. Used properly it can be a positive and important tool to help ensure taxpayer dollars are being spent wisely and on the key services people.

"The House was right to pass legislation authorizing the Line Item Veto and I look forward to the prospect of it being used in the fight to reign in the cost, size and scope of Washington."
