Tipton To Salazar: Let's Debate In All 29 Counties

Dear John:

With the filing deadline passing for candidates to enter the 3rd Congressional District Race via petition last Friday, it is now clear that neither of us will be facing primary opposition for the opportunity to represent our respective parties as their candidate in 2006.

I think you will agree that in the last few years, politics has gotten too far away from the issues. I would like to focus the race between us for the 3rd Congressional District seat on where we stand on important issues facing our country today. I think the best way to accomplish this is by getting in front of the people to conduct a civilized debate about the future of our country and the priorities of our district. That is why I would like to propose a debate in each of the 3rd District's 29 counties between now and Election Day.

As rural Coloradans, I think we can both agree that the folks of Manassa, Cortez, and Walden should have the same opportunity to hear our views as the folks in larger communities such as Pueblo and Grand Junction. With over five months remaining before Election Day, we have a chance to raise the level of discourse in our race to a level that people in the 3rd Congressional District deserve. I believe we have a responsibility to schedule debates in all the counties of the district to ensure the voters of every community get to hear our platforms, regardless of which television or radio stations are available to them. I have attached a list of the 3rd Districts 29 counties for your reference.

Traveling from one end of the district to another over the past few months, I know people are ready to hear from us. I hope you agree on the importance of talking with the voters in all 29 counties and providing an opportunity for all citizens of the 3rd District to hear where we stand.
