Bryant Highlights Corker's Hypocrisy In Debate

What Conservative Principle Led Bob Corker To Raise Taxes, Support Abortion Rights?

BRENTWOOD, TN - Republican candidate for U.S. Senate Ed Bryant tonight highlighted Bob Corker's hypocrisy on taxes, abortion, illegal immigration and spending during the first televised debate of the Senate campaign. Bryant, who just released a new radio advertisement with NASCAR legend Darrell Waltrip, refuted Bob Corker's 2006 campaign claims that clearly contradict Corker's well documented record of raising taxes, increasing government spending, supporting abortion rights, and profiting from illegal aliens on his job site.

"What conservative principle led Bob Corker to raise taxes?" Bryant, a former federal prosecutor and four-term Congressman asked. "In Congress I used conservative principles like cutting taxes, controlling spending, and supporting pro-life legislation to achieve positive results. Bob Corker's campaign claims are not supported by the facts. He raised taxes, increased spending, supported pro-abortion policies, and got busted for having illegal aliens on his job site. It's pure hypocrisy for Bob to say that his record is conservative when the facts tell a different story.

"If Bob thinks he can spend enough money that voters won't recognize his liberal record, he's got another thing coming. Tonight's debate showed that when the spotlight is shone on Bob Corker's record, the truth is revealed, and he is no conservative.

"Bob Corker's hypocritical record makes him the weakest candidate to face Harold Ford Jr. for having not paid his own taxes in two years and then raising taxes on everyone else and for having illegal aliens arrested on his job site - that could cost Republicans control of the Senate. It's critical that we elect a proven, solid conservative with a record that matches his rhetoric. Poll after poll shows that I am the best candidate to defeat Harold Ford Jr. and with our grassroots strength, we will win in August and in November."
