Boehner Statement on Introduction of House Resolution to Debate the Global War on Terror

Congressman John Boehner (R-OH) today issued the following statement on the introduction of a resolution by International Relations Committee Chairman Henry Hyde (R-IL) which will provide a forum for the upcoming House debate over the Global War on Terror:

"The American people deserve a full and extended debate about the Global War on Terror, the war in Iraq, and how best to protect the American people in a post-9/11 world. This resolution will provide a forum for members to debate our commitment to combating terrorism, and will provide answers about the challenges we face in the Global War on Terror and the war in Iraq.

"Both military and political progress was made in the Global War on Terror last week. In addition to the elimination of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, Iraq's parliament appointed the Ministers of Defense and the Interior. There are clear differences between Republicans and Democrats on how best to confront the Global War on Terror, and this debate will be about the fundamental question: Are we going to confront the threat of terrorism and defeat it, or will we relent and retreat in the hopes that it just goes away?"
