Lucas criticizes Davis 2005 vote against port security funding

COVINGTON, KY - Congressman Ken Lucas criticized Geoff Davis' 2005 vote against port security funding on Wednesday.

"While I was in Congress, I was a leader on providing additional funding for increased port security," Lucas said Wednesday. "As a member on the House Homeland Security Committee I recognized the immediate terrorist threat our country faces daily at American ports and proudly voted to put resources into our ports. While I recognized the immediate terrorist threat our country faces daily, it is clear that Geoff Davis does not share my view on the immediate need to strengthen American port security. His vote last year against additional funds to support our ports was a vote to weaken our national security."

In 2003, Lucas voted for an amendment to add $2.5 billion for national security, including $250 million in port security funding. Davis voted against a measure in 2005 that would have put $41 billion to secure the nation from terrorist threats, including $400 million in port security funding and $13 million to double the number of new overseas port inspectors.
