Gov. Sanford Issues Statement on Sen. Hollings' Retirement
SENATOR PRAISED FOR DEDICATION,
LIFETIME OF SERVICE TO STATE

Governor Mark Sanford today issued the following statement in praise of retiring U.S. Senator Ernest F. "Fritz" Hollings:

"Our political process relies on advocates taking stands on issues they believe in," said Gov. Sanford. "He's been a strong advocate who has offered the whole of his life to the political process. Having been in that process for a little while myself, I can appreciate his dedication all the more. Politics ought to be about an honest and open exchange of ideas, and with Fritz it's always been that way. I don't think there's any higher compliment you can pay someone in the political process than that. Jenny and I wish him nothing but the best and our thoughts and prayers will be with him and Peatsy in this new chapter of their lives."
