LATHAM ANNOUNCES CO-SPONSORSHIP OF BOLD NEW "25x'25" U.S. ENERGY GOAL

BIPARTISAN GROUP PUSHES FOR 25% OF ENERGY FROM RENEWABLE SOURCES BY 2025

Iowa Congressman Tom Latham announced his membership in a broad and politically influential renewable resources coalition on Capitol Hill Wednesday. The group also unveiled a major new goal to secure America's energy future. The "25X'25" initiative sets a goal to secure 25% of the nation's total energy from renewable sources such as wind, solar, biomass and biogas by the year 2025. The measure will be introduced as a concurrent resolution in both Houses of Congress of which Latham will be a cosponsor.

"Iowa has been a world wide leader in the creation and enhancement of renewable energy resources," noted Latham. "Because of pioneering efforts like those by Iowa's agricultural sector, clean technologies and renewable resources are ready now. The 25x'25 alliance will aggressively push policies that will ensure a prosperous and healthy future of clean energy for America."

This "25x ‘25" alliance includes bipartisan and bicameral support from numerous Members of Congress. Numerous state legislators and several Governors have endorsed the plan, as have over 140 farm, forestry and environmental organizations and companies, including the American Farm Bureau Federation, the National Association of Counties, the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association, Environmental Defense, the National Wildlife Federation, and Deere & Co.

In addition to providing an important path forward for every American concerned about high energy prices, 25x‘25 will enhance national security, create new job opportunities in rural America, and improve the environment.
