Rep. Price Calls for Better Use of Homeland Security Funds

Congressman Tom Price (GA-06-R) issued the following statement upon his successful passage of an amendment to the Department of Homeland Security Appropriations bill to shift $22 million in funds previously used to pay for limousine services to increase funding for FIRE and SAFER grants programs.

"This is simply an issue of priorities. Fire fighters are part of our first response team. In the event of a natural disaster or terrorist attack, it is imperative that these brave men and women have the necessary training and resources. I am extremely proud to join Congressman Kuhl in presenting this amendment.

"The SAFER grants program helps career and volunteer fire departments retain and recruit firefighters. This is a much more valuable use of the taxpayer's hard-earned money and will help protect American communities."

This amendment was in response to recent news reports outlining a contract agreement between the Department of Homeland Security and a limousine services company whose operations have come under scrutiny.
