Towns' Joins Congressional Chorus Calling for Pell Grant Increases

Rep. Ed Towns signed a letter today urging House members to increase the maximum Pell Grant award. Pell Grants give students and their families the ability to afford higher education, and for many people from low-income communities, an opportunity to advance their educational and career aspirations.

"For many young people in the Brooklyn community, the maximum Pell Grant award of $4,050 simply is not enough to help them pay for their college expenses. It is an intense struggle for families to keep up with the cost of college tuition. Higher education is the cornerstone of our country's future and we must ensure that our nation's most vulnerable are afforded equal opportunities to higher education." Congressman Towns said.

Towns continued, "The cost of tuition should never deter a students' dream of attending I hope that my congressional colleagues will take heed of our letter and increase the Pell Grant award so that all Americans can prosper by making college more affordable."
