JONES RANKED MOST EFFECTIVE MEMBER OF 1994 CONGRESSIONAL CLASS

In national rankings released today, Third District Representative Walter B. Jones (R-NC) was identified as the most effective member of the U.S. House of Representatives Class of 1994. Congressman Jones ranked 44th overall out of the 435 current members of the House of Representatives. The results were part of the "Power Rankings" published by Knowlegis, an independent government relations knowledge management company made up of researchers, programmers, and legislative experts.

The Power Rankings measured power and effectiveness based on Congressional efforts in 2005, focusing on how effective each member was at advancing an agenda — whether it be personal, party or local. The Power Rankings were created as a tool for citizens to assess their elected officials.

"I am humbled by this recognition," Congressman Jones said. "As a member of Congress, I have strived to follow the example of my father - former Representative Walter B. Jones, Sr. - who took pride in working hard as a public servant, without seeking recognition or publicity."

"I am privileged to serve the people of the Third District and grateful for the opportunity to work hard in Congress on their behalf," Jones said.

Knowlegis, in consultation with academic experts and practicing congressional staff, examined dozens of factors that could contribute to the exercise of power and effective outcomes for their efforts in 2005. Knowlegis researchers reviewed thousands of media articles, hundreds of bills that passed out of committee and through each chamber, as well as over a thousand amendments that attempted to shape the outcome of legislation. The three areas of focus were position, influence, and legislative activity.
