Garrett Announces Pompton Lakes Dam Funding is Secured

Today, Congressman Scott Garrett is pleased to announce that the funding necessary to complete the Pompton Lakes Dam project is secured. Congressman Garrett has been working tirelessly on behalf of the residents of Oakland to attain the funding to complete the dam construction in order to prevent further loss of property or life due to flooding.

"I am extremely pleased and relieved to hear that the construction on the dam will continue until the town is safe from flooding damage," stated Garrett. "Ensuring that we secure the funding for this project has been a pressing priority for me as the residents of Oakland and the surrounding towns have sat at the unpredictable mercy of the elements."

Congressman Garrett, over several years, secured all of the necessary funding for the project, yet over $8 million of funding was reprogrammed away from the project by the Army Corps of Engineers. The Congressman has worked steadfastly to re-secure the funding in time for the project to continue.

Last fall, torrential rains flooded Oakland, NJ, displacing residents and destroying property due to the lack of flood control. The Pompton Lakes Dam, once completed, will guard residents of Oakland and the area from any further threat from flooding.
