BLUNT CELEBRATES STRONG JOB GAINS

WASHINGTON—House Majority Whip Roy Blunt (Mo.) today celebrated sustained job growth, as the Department of Labor announced that a strong U.S. economy created 211,000 new jobs in March.

Blunt attributed the job creation to House Republicans' efforts to remove the economic barriers of taxation, litigation and regulation, saying, "Our agenda in the House has provided tax relief for the American worker and we are continuing to see the positive results. The economy is continuing to thrive, more jobs are constantly being created, and more Americans are part of our growing economy each month."

Payroll employment has increased for 31 consecutive months, and the unemployment rate has fallen over that period from 6.3 percent in June 2003, to the current rate of 4.7 percent.
